Believe it or not on The Calendar of Days, it is National “Open a bottle” day! So to honor this day, as the last week of my “Hostess” month this year, I am challenging all the crazies to make a card of “Celebration”.

The Steps:

Step 1: I had Karen Burniston’s” Wine Charms so I decided to use this set for my card. I cut all the pieces in this set from white cardstock then colored each piece with Copic Markers and assembled the bottles and glasses. I didn’t use the grapes die.

Step 2: I cut the pieces for the S’mores from Karen Burnistons: Camping Charms from white cardstock and colored them with copic Markers.

Step 3: Make a base card by scoring a piece of 8.5″ x 11″ pc. of white cardstock at 5.5″ on the long side. Fold over for a tent fold and trim to 5″ x 7″.

Step 4: Using Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1125 – Ropes 1 I cut the straight rope 4 times from tan cardstock.

Step 5: I created the sentiment in my computer, printed the two on tan cardstock. Then using Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1537 Stitched Hexagons I used the 3rd smallest die to cut them out making sure I made room for the charms. Next I adhered the wine and camping charms as shown.

Step 6: Cut a mat for the base front that measures 4.5″ x 6.5″. I had this cork board look alike cardstock that I used. Adhere the mat to the card front and the hexgons.

Step 7: I finished off the edges with the ECD : 1125 – Ropes 1 Here’s another quick look.

Make it Masculine!

Blue Classic Ford H2O

This last Saturday of July, our hostess Karen O. has challenged us to make a masculine card. I purchased a digital stamp of this drawing of a Classic Ford, popular in the 40’s quite some time ago before I was blogging. Therefore, I have no idea who the artist is. I work 3 days a week in a beauty salon inside of an upscale senior community. It is truly a blessing to work with my parents generation. My parents both died young, so I appreciate their wisdom and humor so much. This car would have been quite the car in the prime of their lives. I thought this would be a card I could give to one of the “boys” that live there.

The Steps:

Step 1: I sized and printed out the car on white cardstock.and colored with Copic markers B21, B23 and B24.

Step 2: The finished card measures 5 x 7″, so score a piece of 8.5 x 11 at 5.5″ on the long side. Fold over for a tent fold card and trim to the finished size. Cut a rectangle piece of wood look cardstock that measures 6.75″ x 4.75″. Adhere it to the front of the white base card.

Step 3: Cut a rectangle from black cardstock that measures 5.75″ x 3″. Cut the colored printed car to a rectangle that measures 5.25 x 2 and 5 eights. Adhere this to the black one centered.

Step 4: Using Elizabeth Craft Designs: happy birthday, cut once with silver mirror cardstock. Using Elizabeth Craft Designs: Corners cut 4 also from silver cardstock.

Step 5: Adhere the “silver corners” to the corners of the wood look background. Adhere the step 3 mounted “car” to the card at .5″ from the bottom and sides of the wood background. Then add the “happy birthday” as shown. Here’s another look:

Sometimes the paper talks to you!

It’s sketch week! I love sketch week! I was a little stumped at first. I decided to go through my paper stash, hoping for an idea. Then I stumbled on a paper pack that I bought a couple of years back at the Scrapbook Expo.

This paper pack from Simple Stories contains 24 double sided 6 x 6″ papers. I decided to use it because it’s already filled with color coordinated paper! So this week the paper itself created the IDEA! It also made it easy and fast! My two favorite things!

The Steps:

Step 1: I chose the sort of Chevron stripe paper for the backing paper. I trimmed 1/8″ off of all 4 sides so there would be a 1/8″ white border when this layer is adhered to the base card. I cut the smaller 3 squares with the red polka dot and the navy polka dot from this pack, and cut the blue from solid light blue cardstock so the sentiment would stand out. I used Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1118 – Stitched Squaress

I used the 5th die from smallest or the largest. It’s a 9 die set.

Step 2: Make a base card by cutting a 12 x 12 pc. of white cardstock in half. Score one half at 6″. Fold over for a “tent fold” card. Then adhere the backing layer and 3 squares as shown:

Step 3: I used this set of word dies from Diamond Press for the “Hello”:

I cut it 4 times: navy, white, red and yellow cardstock. I offset them all together just a little. Then adhered the sentiment on top of the squares. I KNOW! 3 STEPS AND YOUR DONE!

C4C 451 Thank You Challenge

A long over due “Thank You”

A very belated thank you card!

This week we are challenged to make a “thank you” card. I made one a couple of weeks ago for my best friend, my partner, at the beauty salon from this same die set. This one is for someone I have never met. He is the son in law of one of my weekly 92yrs. young, salon customers. HE LOVES TO BAKE! Every week he brings a batch of something he has baked to his mother in law! (mostly cookies) Every week, she brings me and my partner at the salon, each, a zip baggie with 2 cookies in them. We always assumed she was just sharing what he gave her. When I thanked her this week for sharing what her son in law makes for her she said, “Did I give you the impression that I am sharing my cookies with you? He sends these every week specifically packaged for the two of you for your 15 yrs. of making the women of the WW2 generation still feel beautiful!” WOW!

There really are angels walking among us! He’s been doing this for years and we never knew! So this is the “THANK YOU!” card that this man should have gotten a long time ago, but finally will.

The Steps:

Step 1: Using Karen Burniston’s: 1023 – Tag Book Pop Up

Tag Book Pop-up Depending upon the theme you’re going for with this set, choose the designer cardstock you will use for the large die pc. I recommend a double sided cardstock. The one I chose is black and white (for a man). It had black and white stripes on one side and white hearts on a black background on the other. I chose the stripes for the outside and the hearts for the inside.

Click on the product link and it will take you, not only to the product, but also the assembly video. I recommend that you watch the video to not only know how to assemble this pop up, but also to help you choose papers/cardstock for your project. This set has 17 dies in it! All the little circle frames, and everything on this project except the “Baker” themed dies are from this set.

Step 2: The cute little “baker” themed inside décor pcs. are from these two die sets:

The other one is an older and discontinued Karen Burniston die set called:

All the pieces were cut out of white cardstock and colored with Copic Markers except for the oven mittens cut from the stripe side of the “double side”, the “whisk and the fork” cut from silver mirror cardstock, and the one red/white polka dot platter from scrap cardstock.

The 3 “Thank You”‘ sentiments on the front of the card is from this set: I have no idea who makes or made these, but I bought them on “Craft Day” from one of the shopping networks years ago and cut them out with red cardstock.

Good Morning Crafty Friends! The challenge for this week is to make a card for a male. It does not say it HAS to be an adult male. The youngest male in my family is my one and only male grandchild and he is 14! He thinks he is grown up! He is, however, a really sweet young man who, believe it or not, still loves to spend a weekend with his Grammy!

THE STEPS:

(Products I used and links are listed below at the end)

Step 1: Create a base card by scoring a 8.5 x 11″ piece of white cardstock at 5.5″ on the long side. Fold over for a book fold card. Trim to 5 x 7″.

Step 2: Cut a pc. of designer cardstock that measures 4.75 x 6.75″ and adhere to the front of the white base card, centering it for a 1/8″ border on all 4 sides.

Step 3: Cut Suzanne Cannon “Happy Birthday” for Elizabeth Craft Designs. (Link at end) from silver mirror cardstock.

Step 4: I used an older Karen Burniston’s die set (no longer available) called “Clock and Gears”. I cut both gears from silver mirror cardstock. I also used the little circles that are the negative pcs. that come out of the larger gear to add here and there.
