An Eclipsed “Thanks”

Eclipse cards started trending a while ago.

I’ve been wanting to make one these “Eclipse” cards since they started trending a while ago. But didn’t have a word set that was bold enough for it. But recently I bought Karen Burniston’s : 1053 – Alphabet

I like this set because each letter is an individual die. Also, they are a nice size coming in at just a tad under once inch.

The Steps:

Step 1: Stamp an image on a piece of white cardstock. I chose this one from Hero Arts:

I used 3 colors of ink. First purple, then blended in the blue then a pinky lavender. Then I placed the letters that spell “THANKS’, blade down where I wanted them to end up. By the way, it looks as if I spaced the dies out, but actually all the 6 dies touched each other side by side. Now run this through your cutting machine. Save the letters that were cut out.

Step 2: Adhere the remainder of the stamped piece to a same size rectangle of the pinky lavender cardstock. This makes it more stable to add the letters back into it. Now cut all the letters out of the same pinky lavender cardstock 4 times. Glue all 4 of the layers together for each letter. Then glue the letters you cut out of the stamped image on top of the 4 pink stacked layers letters, but offset this layer just a smidge. Now glue each stacked letter back into the card. I know, what? But look at it again in the picture and the above makes sense! Hopefully!

Step 3: THE LAST STEP! Make two more matts that coordinate with the ink colors you chose. Score an 8.5″ x 11″ piece of cardstock at 5.5″ on the 11″ side. Fold over and trim to the size you need for your project. Now assemble the card.

C4C – A Birthday card with Numbers

I love interactive cards!

Everyone who knows me, knows I love interactive cards. For this card I chose Karen Burniston’s 1042 – 1042 – Spinner Square Pop Up

This die set is so versatile. It can be used for almost any theme you want. I always recommend that you watch Karen’s: Spinner Square Pop Up assembly video It will really help you make the “spinner mechanism” work properly the very first time.

The Steps:

Step 1: I chose a digital designer paper from a shop on Etsy called “The Digi Rainbow” that’s called 100 Number Digital Papers. Yes, there are 100 different colors of this same paper that’s included in the Sale price of $1.40 for all of the colors! What? I used this blue one for the front, the inside left, and the back of the card.

Step 2: I stenciled some clouds on the right inside as well as some die cut clouds from a set that has been discontinued.

Step 3: I stamped and colored with Copic Markers this stamp from Art Impressions:

Once colored, I fussy cut the “couple flying in the plane” to spin up on the square when the card is opened.

Step 4: On my computer I created the two sentiments that is a quote from Abraham Lincoln! (“It’s not the years in your life, it’s the life in your years”)

Step 5: The “Happy Birthday” sentiment on the front is: 783 – Happy Birthday

That’s it!

C4C – 452 Sketch Week!

I have an adorable granddaughter who is a September girl like me! She’s is in high school now and is too grown-up to want kiddie cards but still likes interactive cards.

Here’s how I made this card:

I used a now retired die set from Karen Burniston when she was still with Elizabeth Craft Designs called 916 – Spiral Circle Pull Card. It comes with a die that creates a spiral that extends when the card is opened. As most of Karen’s interactive dies sets, this one could be for any theme. This die set looked as if it was made for this month’s sketch to me:

The basket and all the flowers were made with this set from Joset for Elizabeth Craft Designs called: 1460 – Spring Basket

Let’s just say I cut a lot of flowers. I used pink, yellow and white cardstock and cut each flower with two layers of petals. The flower center circle was cut with an olive green cardstock. The bow from this set was cut with the same cardstock from Elizabeth Craft Designs called: Thinking About Grand Canyon that I used for the pull card. I cut the basket from white cardstock and colored it with PanPastels.

The leafy branches was with Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1033 – Leafy Branch I cut about 6 branches and cut into pieces that worked for the basket of flowers.

The frog was made with die set also expired from Karen Burniston called 909 – Hoppy the Frog:

I cut two little circles out of white cardstock using Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1172 – Dotted Scallop Circles I cut them using the 3rd to the smallest die in this set for under the frog and for the sentiment when you open the card. I stamped the sentiment “Enjoy your day” from a retired Karen Burniston little stamp set called Just a Note on one of the circles for the inside sentiment.

The outside sentiment “Happy Birthday” is from this die set from Elizabeth Craft Designs: 783 – Happy Birthday

C4C 451 Thank You Challenge

A long over due “Thank You”

A very belated thank you card!

This week we are challenged to make a “thank you” card. I made one a couple of weeks ago for my best friend, my partner, at the beauty salon from this same die set. This one is for someone I have never met. He is the son in law of one of my weekly 92yrs. young, salon customers. HE LOVES TO BAKE! Every week he brings a batch of something he has baked to his mother in law! (mostly cookies) Every week, she brings me and my partner at the salon, each, a zip baggie with 2 cookies in them. We always assumed she was just sharing what he gave her. When I thanked her this week for sharing what her son in law makes for her she said, “Did I give you the impression that I am sharing my cookies with you? He sends these every week specifically packaged for the two of you for your 15 yrs. of making the women of the WW2 generation still feel beautiful!” WOW!

There really are angels walking among us! He’s been doing this for years and we never knew! So this is the “THANK YOU!” card that this man should have gotten a long time ago, but finally will.

The Steps:

Step 1: Using Karen Burniston’s: 1023 – Tag Book Pop Up

Tag Book Pop-up Depending upon the theme you’re going for with this set, choose the designer cardstock you will use for the large die pc. I recommend a double sided cardstock. The one I chose is black and white (for a man). It had black and white stripes on one side and white hearts on a black background on the other. I chose the stripes for the outside and the hearts for the inside.

Click on the product link and it will take you, not only to the product, but also the assembly video. I recommend that you watch the video to not only know how to assemble this pop up, but also to help you choose papers/cardstock for your project. This set has 17 dies in it! All the little circle frames, and everything on this project except the “Baker” themed dies are from this set.

Step 2: The cute little “baker” themed inside décor pcs. are from these two die sets:

The other one is an older and discontinued Karen Burniston die set called:

All the pieces were cut out of white cardstock and colored with Copic Markers except for the oven mittens cut from the stripe side of the “double side”, the “whisk and the fork” cut from silver mirror cardstock, and the one red/white polka dot platter from scrap cardstock.

The 3 “Thank You”‘ sentiments on the front of the card is from this set: I have no idea who makes or made these, but I bought them on “Craft Day” from one of the shopping networks years ago and cut them out with red cardstock.

An appreciation Card

Good Morning Crafty friends!

Today’s card is an appreciation card for my best friend. She has been there for me through all the ups and downs of life’s challenges. Recently, she brought me through one of the biggest challenges I’ve had. And now that I see that things will go back to normal again and I’m feeling the “happy” again, it was time to acknowledge how much I value her friendship! She’s also my boss, so a little kissing up never hurts either . LOL! So let’s make this card.

The Steps:

I love this die set from Karen Burniston: 1023-Tag Book Pop-Up

There are a lot of die pcs. in this set which includes decorator pcs that you can use with other die sets and projects.

Cut all the pcs. from cardstock and or designer papers that fit your theme. As referenced below, I always like to watch Karen’s assembly video’s before I make one of her Pop – Up cards. She breaks down what looks complicated into very easy, simple steps. Plus at the end of the video you’ll get lots of inspiration for using this set from her Design Team.

This is really a great set to invest in because it can be used for any theme you can think of and is so fun for the receiver to open.

I chose Karen Burniston’s: Coffee Charms to make the Coffee and Tea theme.

I cut all of the pcs. twice in the “Coffee Charms” set from white cardstock. I cut the “heart” pc. an additional time from pink cardstock. I colored the pcs. with Copic Markers.

My friend and I made a day trip to Grass Valley, Ca. to see her mother recently. We stopped at a Deli in Grass Valley and had Ice Tea and Soda with our sandwiches. On the way home that early evening, we stopped for fancy coffee drinks for the drive back. I wanted this card to always remind her of this day.

Rather than write out all the steps for the assembly of this adorable set, I really recommend that you watch Karen’s video. It’s very easy to follow her instructions and it helps you decide what die pcs. you’ll cut with which cardstock and designer papers!

I cut the large and small “tag” pop up mechanism die pcs. from Gray Polka dot cardstock. (see products used). I cut most of all the little decorator die pcs. from white and pink cardstock so I would have lots of choices when I started to assemble the card. (see products used) I cut a piece of white cardstock for a rectangle that measures 4″ x 4.75″. Run this pc. through your machine and a polka dot embossing folder. Cut the embossed pc. in half to end up with two pcs. that measure 2″ x 4.75″ for the front and back large tags. There is a die pc. that cuts the same little circles straight edge. I used this pc. to cut four times from pink and twice from white cardstock.

Using the 1052 – Friends Cut twice with Pink cardstock. Adhere the two together.

Next, I used a discontinued stamp set from Karen Burniston called “Coffee and Tea”. I stamped the sentiment for the inside front tag and cut it out with a discontinued die set from Karen called “Labels and Circles”. to cut it out. The pink “paper clip” is one of the decorator dies that comes with the “tag book pop up” set. I cut it once from pink cardstock and once from silver mirror cardstock.

I created the sentiment for the inside back tag on my computer and used the same die set used in the front. I distressed the edges of both sentiment labels with pink PanPastel.

The set also includes a square and rectangle decorator dies. I used the little “circles frame” square and rectangle pcs. with white, pink and light gray cardstock. Then I was able to mix and match the centers with the frames.

I cut the decorator pcs. for the mountain fold part of the pop up mechanism all out of white cardstock. I colored the little circles straight pc. with a N02 Copic Marker.

Once you have all the die pcs. cut you can start decorating and assembling the Pop Up card. I added pink polka dot gross grain ribbon to the large tags and pink/white Baker’s Twine to the small inside tags. This is the fun step! Here’s another look at the inside.

Sorry you caught a bug!

A fun card for someone who’s caught a bug!

Here’s a video of how the pop up mechanism works.

his is a die set from Karen Burniston and is fast becoming my favorite! Why, because it can be any theme you can imagine! Plus. It’s an interactive card that has a surprise that pops up when the receiver opens it.

There is an assembly video by Karen. If you want to buy this set for yourself then I really recommend that you watch the video at least the first time you use it. The mechanism that makes the card interactive can be tricky and you’ll never figure it out by yourself. Here’s the link: 1042 – Spinner Square Pop Up

I adore the paper packs from Moda Scrap called “Thinking About Polinesia” for Elizabeth Craft Designs. I am also crazy for polka dots!

I used this adorable stamp set from Lawn Fawn called On The Mend . I stamped the Band Aid, Soup bowl/spoon and Turtle on white cardstock. I colored them and fussy cut. The Tissue Box and little bug, and sentiment “sorry you caught a bug” and “feel better” was also from the same set.

I used a die set from Frantic Stamper called Gardening Pots

I cut the 2nd to the largest for the flower pot on the front and the largest for the pot inside.

The Daisies are from a die set from DoCrafts called “Glorious Gerbera” I cut the daisy on the right middle which is the second to the smallest twice for each daisy and the yellow center of the daisy from the little circle once for each daisy.

The leaves are from a die set from Elizabeth Craft Designs called 901 – Daisy:

C4C – 444 Sketch Week

It’s the 3rd Saturday of the month. So, we have a Sketch Challenge!

This sketch was pretty easy for me. However, I didn’t want to make flowers. I decided to use one of Karen Burniston’s older character dies 909 – Hoppy the Frog for Elizabeth Craft Designs. I’ve always loved this character die set because besides “Hoppy”, the set includes the Fly and the Water Lily dies.

The main elements for this card are these three products:

Besides “Hoppy” I also used an embossing folder by Darice and Elizabeth Craft Designs 1174 – Dotted Scallop Rectangles. So let’s make this card!

The Steps:

Step 1: Cut out the pcs. of the frog twice and assemble both frogs. Cut the water lily die 6 times for 3 water lilies out of white cardstock. Color the lilies with Copic Markers. Shape only the lily not the leaves of 3 of the lily pcs. Glue the shaped lily over the flat one offsetting slightly. Cut the pcs. for the fly 3 times for the fly out of white cardstock. (the white wing inner pc. will stay white but color the rest black. Be careful that you don’t loose those tiny white pcs. that you will need for the flies wings.

Step 2: Cut a rectangle 4 x 5.5″ and emboss it with the Darice folder using a blue or aqua cardstock. Using the largest die in the nested Dotted Scallop Rectangles set, cut with a darker shade of blue or aqua cardstock.

Step 3: Make a base card by scoring a pc. of 5.5 x 11″ white cardstock at 5.5″ along the long side. Fold over for a book fold and trim to 5.25 x 11″.

Step 4: Adhere the embossed mat to the darker scalloped mat. Adhere the this to the front of the base, tilted as shown.

Step 5: Add the frogs, colored and assembled lilies, and flies as shown.

Step 6: Create the sentiment on your computer and cut it out with a the smallest die in this set:

Add this sentiment pc. as shown and that’s it! Just 6 easy steps. I hope you’ll join us this week in the sketch challenge. We can’t wait to see your version of this sketch. The inside is just the simple “miss you” die from Die -Versions:

A Sea Themed Tag Pop Up

Good Morning DiesRUs fans as well as Karen Burniston fans! My sweet daughter gave me a gift certificate for Mother’s Day and Karen’s: 1023 – Tag Book was one of the new toys I chose with her gift!

This is my first “tag book” using Karen’s die set for this so fun and versatile set! However, this is not the first time I made a “tag book”. A couple of yrs. or more ago Karen came up with a way to make this very tag book but you needed several of her die sets and then also need to manually make a couple of other elements and then find other dies from other sets to decorate it! Whew! However, I soooo loved the results that all those steps made, so I gave it a try but I never made another one:

When this publishes, I’m going to ask Karen if she remembers this. I can tell you this set makes it a lot easier to make such a fun card to receive. You can’t think of an occasion that this die set couldn’t be used for and it comes with 17 dies! I made today’s project for my grand daughter’s birthday.

The Steps:

Step 1: Once you decide what theme you want this card to have then I suggest that you watch the assembly video so you can choose which paper to use when you start cutting. Remember, there are 17 dies! And also, at the end of the video she will show what the designers made with this set. Here’s the link: Karen’s Tag Book Assembly

Step 2: I cut everything accept the “Shells and other deco pcs.” twice because I wasn’t sure what I wanted in which of the coordinated designer cardstock. I was working with a paper pack from Graphic 45 called “By the Sea” Collection.

Step 3: I also used Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1125 – Ropes 1

I cut 3 of the wavy chain ones and sort of weaved them in and over the little frames on the tags:

Step 4: Using Elizabeth Craft Designs – 1147 Shells Small

The small shells are not available right now at DiesRUs but the “Large Shells” are and would also fit this die set. 1146 – Shells Large

The little Pail and Shovel was in my stash from an earlier Karen Burniston Pop Up set.

Step 5: The front of my card was made by fussy cutting a couple of elements from the same Graphic 45 paper pack:
