Relaxing Bath

Well, while in California we have all been ordered to shelter in place, I have been having some fun making some wall hangings for family and friends using one of my all time favorite Digital Stamp store, The Paper Shelter’s adorable digital stamps.  This one is called:   Relaxing Bath

First of all if you are not familiar with digital stamps, then let me tell you why I love them and use them more then traditional stamps.  When you buy an image you get the colored image, the black and white line image (to color yourself), a background with the featured image on it or you can choose to print out the feature image and the background separately, as I did for this project.  The average cost is around $3.00!  You don’t have to store them in your craft room because you store them on your computer.  You can also print them out in any size!  So let’s make some cute art to frame!

The Steps:

Step 1:  Print out the colored version of the background and the featured image that goes with it on white cardstock.  Cut the featured image out using a nested squares die set.  I used Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1118 – Stitched Squares

Step 2:  Make a frame using Elizabeth Craft Designs: Happy Frame XL.  I chose to use a purple cardstock for this step so that the bath accessories would stand out.  Here’s the link to the assembly video: Happy Frame Assembly video

Step 3:  I used some Karen Burniston’s die sets such as the little ducks, bubbles and wine set.  I used Silhouette files for the “slippers, soap, bath brush and yellow bottle of bubble bath.

Step 4:  Trim the background to the same size as the frame.  (if you measure 1″ from each side of the background and trim off the excess, then the printed background should be the exact size of the assembled frame (8″ square).  Add double sided adhesive to all four edges of the trimmed background and attach to the backside of the frame.

Step 5:  Add the bath accessories to the frame as shown.  I chose a white 5/8″ wide ribbon to hang the finished project with.  I tied a bow and left enough ribbon hanging from the bow to attach to the back at the length I felt would look good.  Tape the two hanging pcs. to the back of the project.  Then cut a 8″sq. of white cardstock and attach to the back of the project to cover the ends of the bow and make a clean backside.

This step is optional, but this is where I wrote a little note about why I chose this particular image for this project for the recipient, but also some things I love about them.

C4C-464 The last post of the year.

For the last challenge every year each team member chooses a sketch challenge from the 12 months to make a card for this last of the year challenge.  AND, so do you!  I chose the August sketch.

I love this digital stamp from The Paper Shelter.  It is called “Most Adorable Snowman”.  I just love the expression on this snowman’s face.

The Steps:

Step !:  Download, size and print the digital stamp.  Now color it with the medium of your choice.  I colored mine with Copic Markers.

Step 2:  Using Elizabeth Craft Designs:  1113 – Stitched Ovals

Cut your colored image out with the second largest oval in the set.

Step 2:  Nest the second largest oval inside the largest oval and tape to white cardstock in the nested position and run through your cutting machine to create an oval frame.  Do this step 3 times netting out 3 white oval frames.

Step 3:  Create a base card by scoring a 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of white cardstock.  Trim to 5.5″ x 7″.  Adhere a rectangle pc. of designer paper to the front of the base card that measures 5.25″ x 6.75 ” leaving a .25″ margin on all sides.

Step 4:  Open the card and position the same second large Oval over the front of the card leaving enough room on the bottom edge for a sentiment.  Run through your cutting machine.  Now glue one of the white oval frames around the cut oval.  Open the card.

Step 5:  Center the cut stamped image on the inside of the card so that it exactly matching the position on the front of the card.  Adhere to the inside left of the card so that it shows through the front of the card.  Adhere a white oval over both the right and left ovals.

Step 6:   Add a sentiment.  I used Elizabeth Craft Designs “Merry Christmas”.  I also added 3 snowflakes and some silver line peel off stickers to complete the sketch.

C4C – 455 World Card Making Day!

Today is World Card Making Day!  Today is also my first time to Hostess the challenge and I will be your Hostess all month at the blog for Crazy4Challenges  

So this week’s challenge is to make a card!  It can be any shape or theme that you would like to make.  I’m hoping to see a lot of you this week because you know there’s something coming up in your life that calls for a greeting card.

I took this opportunity to do some coloring.  I like to color when I’m experiencing stress!  I find coloring to be very calming and takes you out of your “head” for a while.

I used to have a little Yorkie named “Radar”.  He was the love of my life!  When I saw this adorable digital stamp from The Paper Shelter  I just had to have it.  The stamp is called “Teacup Yorkie”.

The Steps:

Step 1:  Download the image (click the “paper shelter” link above to purchase). Then size and print the stamp on cardstock made for the coloring medium you use.  I used Copic Markers, so I printed the stamp on X-Press It Blending Card that is available at Amazon.

Step 2:  Using Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1120 – Stitched Rectangles Cut out the colored image:

Step 3:  Cut a mat for the die cut image with a coordinating color cardstock using the largest die from this set:  1174 – Dotted Scallop Rectangles  Adhere the “colored image” layer to this mat.

Step 4:  Using Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1072 – Small Butterfly

Cut the Silhouette pc and overlay pc. from cardstock that matches the way you colored the butterfly in the digital stamp.  Assemble the butterfly.

Step 5:  From this set I’ve had for yrs. and don’t know who is the manufacture, I cut the sentiment “Hello” 3 times.  Once in light peach, one in coral and one in a medium teal.  I offset the stack with coral, then teal and last light peach.:

Step 6:  Score a pc. of cardstock that is 8.5″ x 11″ or larger at the half way mark on the long side and fold for a side fold.  Trim for a base card that measures 5.25″ x 6.5″.

Step 7:  Assemble the card as shown:

C4C 420 Show us a heart

This week’s theme for the “Crazies” challenge is to show us a “heart”!  There are so many ways you could make a card with this theme.  I decided to make a Valentines Card.

If you’ve been following me, and please do, then you know I am so crazy for digital images from The Paper Shelter.  This adorable image is literally called “How you doin?” and I couldn’t think of a better sentiment!

Let’s make the card:

Step 1:  Size, print and color the image on cardstock with Copic Markers.  My new absolute favorite paper is this one that I learned about on the Kit and Clowder website:

                This paper alone will make your coloring better.  I got mine at Amazon.

Step 2:  Using this die set from Elizabeth Craft Designs cut twice.  Once with white cardstock and once with hot pink (cut the hot pink second and leave in the die. (you’ll see why in step 4:

When this die set first came out I wasn’t a fan because all the frames are cut at once.  But then when I saw their Design Team’s cards using these adorable nesting die I had to by a set and now I have all four sets!  The picture below shows the hot pink still in the die and 2 frames I colored from the white cardstock curvy frames.  It also shows the designer paper I thought I was going to use but ended up using something else.  I did however use the one in this photo for the back of the card

Step 3:  Glue the green frame to the image printed and colored cardstock:

Notice I haven’t taken the hot pink frames out of the die yet in the above photo?  It’s because as pictured below I knew I was going to use only the negative pcs. of the hot pink set as shown below:

  Step 4:  Adhere the white frame and the hot pink negative pcs. out of the hot pink die set that matches it’s space.  It may look like they aren’t specific to the spaces but they are.  You would eventually figure it out but this tip saves a lot of time and mistakes.

Step 5:  Now cut with a paper cutter the assembled step 4.  With the die set below and the largest die , cut a white mat adhere your “image sandwich” to this mat as pictured above:

Step 6:  Create the base card by cutting a 12 x 12″ pc. of White Soft Finish Cardstock to     7″ x 12″.   Score at 6″ on the long side.  Fold over (tent fold) and trim to 7 x 5.75″.

Step 7:  Cut a pc. of Designer paper or cardstock that measures 6.75″ x 5.5″.  Adhere to the front of the base card leaving 1/8″ border all around.  I chose this double sided cardstock from Lawn Fawn.

Step 8:  Adhere the image sandwich centered over the front of the card.

Step 9:  Cut four corners from the smaller roof embellishment with this die set from Impression Obsession below and add them to the corners as shown.  The little pink heart above the Hedge Hog or Porcupine (not sure which he is)  is one I had in my “extra parts” container.

Dies R Us – Kids Cards!

Combine stamping and Die cutting to make adorable cards.

I decided to enter the current challenge at Dies R Us which is “Kids Cards”.

The image I chose for this challenge is one called “Peaceful Easter” from The Paper Shelter.  I fell in love with this sweet image of innocence:

The Steps:

Step 1:  Download, size and print the image.  If you’re new to digital stamps,  the greatest reference on many things about using digital images is from a website called Kit and Clowder.   This is a company that teaches coloring with Markers and Pencils.  They also have areas on their website that have an amazing amount of information on all things coloring!  The below photo shows how I always print out an image that I buy in both the black and white, and color version on one page that I keep in a binder.  It also has the image that I colored with PrismaColor Premium Pencils.

After I colored the stamped image I created the background with stencils and PanPastel’s then trimmed the finished image to 5 x 7″ with the stamped image centered:

Step 2:  Cut 2 rectangle mats that measure 5 x 7″.  One from Designer cardstock and one from white cardstock.  From the Die set below on the right 1113 – Stitched Ovals, center the second to the largest on the Designer cardstock and run through your machine.  From the same die set, center the third to the largest on the white rectangle.  Save the Oval mats for another project because you will use the rectangle mats with the oval cut outs.

2016-11-26-17-11-25Step 3:  Adhere the white mat to this layer. Then, on top. the Designer layer.  The photo below is these 3 layers and the beginning of step 4:

Step 4:  Cut from white cardstock and color with Copic Markers, all the decorator items as follows:

Cut the grass, eggs, bunnies and fence once.  Cut all the Holly Hock pcs. to assemble the holly hock on your card directly and build the plant from the stem up as the picture in step 3.

Step 5:  Assemble the Holly Hock on the left as shown then add the fence, bunnies and eggs on the bottom.

Step 6:  Create a base card by scoring a 8.5 x 11″ at 5.5″ on the long side.  Fold and trim down to 5.5 x 7.5″.  Adhere the assembled front to the base.

Rubber Ducky Day!

Again, who knew there was a “Rubber Ducky Day”?  Well, it’s today!  The challenge this week over at Crazy4Challenges is to put a duck or some other feathered friend on your project.  If you’ve been following, then you know I’m crazy for “The Paper Shelter”.  All through the Holiday Season I was using digital stamps from this company on many of my cards for Christmas.  This “Duck” image is called “Most Adorable Duck“.  I’ve been taking classes from Alyce at Kit and Clowder and applying the great technique’s I’m learning.  Alyce’s  mantra is “Practice, practice, practice”  Note: Whenever I get a new digi stamp I print both the black and white and the colored version.  I then usually copy the artist’s coloring the first time I color an image.  It helps me see where the artist’s light source is coming from:

The Steps:

Step 1:  Size, print and color the image.  I used Prismacolor Premium Pencils.

Step 2:  Cut out the colored image with Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1116 –  Stitched Circles:

Apply 250.5 Diarylide Yellow PanPastel with a make up sponge to the edges and blending into the center.

Step 3:  With the largest die in the below set 1254 – Entwined Circles cut one pc. with light blue cardstock:

Step 4:  From the die set below cut 1 of all 3 of the smaller pcs. from white cardstock and color with Copic Markers :

Step 5:  Cut both small butterflies 1011 – Garden Notes – Bugs and Butterflies from white cardstock and color with Copic Markers.

Step 6:  The card assembly.

6A:  Make a base card by cutting a pc. of 12″ x 12″ White Soft Finish Cardstock by Elizabeth Craft Designs in half and scoring one half at 6″ along the 12″ side.

6B:  Cut a pc. of designer paper with the largest die from the below set:

6C:  Adhere this pc. centered on the white card base.

6D:  Adhere the “Duck Image Circle” centered as shown, then the light blue “Entwined Circle”.

6E:  Add the “cattail die pcs. and butterflies” as shown.

C4C – 416 Tags for Christmas!

Hi friends!  I hope you had a great Christmas!  This week’s challenge is to incorporate a tag or tags on your project.  My grandchildren are all either teens or adults now so I usually give them money for Christmas.  I had purchased Elizabeth Craft Designs 960 – Tags and More 7 – Vine but hadn’t used it yet.  So I made these huge tags as gift holders for the Grands!  Below is a photo of the backs.

I have fallen in love with The Paper Shelter’s digital images for Christmas.  These two are called “Santa’s Family Selfie” on the left and “Snowmen Selfie” on the right.

The Steps:

Step 1:  Print out the two digital images on cardstock that is appropriate for what ever medium you will use to color them.   I got a bargain on Amazon for Prismacolor’s Premier 150 count color pencils.  Both of these I colored with my new set.  I watched some lessons over at Kit and Clowder and applied those techniques I learned for these two adorable images.

Step 2:  From and 8.5 x 11″ 110lb. cardstock cut two long rectangles that measure 8.5 x 4″.   Cut two more long rectangles from Designer paper the same size.  Put one white rectangle on top of one designer rectangle. Cut the top of each of these 2 sandwich rectangles with the die pc. that cuts the top edge from the set below.  TIP:  Leave the layers together and run through your cutting machine again removing the previous die and adding one of the  “hole” die pcs.  Use the “hole protector” pc. and cut 4 red hole covers.

Step 3:  Cut two of each of these dies from green card stock:

Add red/gold glitter dots as shown.

Step 4:  I created the humorous sentiments on my computer, printed them out on light brown cardstock and cut them out with the smallest die from this die set.

Step 5:  Assemble your tag as shown.  On the “Snowmen Selfie” make a frame from light brown cardstock and square nested dies by nesting two dies and running through the cutting machine.  The size of the two square dies would depend on the size of frame you need to frame your image.  I wanted it to look as if animated snowmen were looking into a window and coaxing my granddaughter to come outside.

Step 6:  Decorate a letter size envelope.  I used this stamp set and a Misti on the flap side:

I also added some die cut stars and snowflakes I had in my stash.  Adhere the envelope to the back of the tag with ECD Clear Double Sided Adhesive 10mm.  Add glitter lines all around the outside of the envelope.

That’s it!

  These are so fun and easy to make and could be used for cash, gift cards and checks.  A great quick way to make the “gift and card all in one”!

This week’s challenge over at Crazy4Challenges is to color!  I just recently bought some digital stamps from The Paper Shelter.  This little stamp is called “Snow Angel”and I fell in love with her!

The Steps:

Step 1:  Digital stamps can be printed out in any size.  I knew I wanted to make a multi layered card so that it would look like this little Snow Angel was out in the woods under a blanket of fresh falling snow.  Print out the image in the size that will be in ratio to the other elements (trees).

Cut 8 trees from this die set:

You can cut two layers of cardstock at a time with these dies.  Glue two trees together to end up with four trees.  I need them early in the project so I can audition other things in relationship to this die set!

Step 2:  Color the Snow Angel with Copic Markers:

Step 3:  Create a background for the scene.  First, cut the printed and colored cardstock down to 5.5″ x 7″.  I used a stencil by Susan Tierney Cockburn for Elizabeth Craft Designs called “Cloud and Grass” to create the sky using PanPastels 520.5 Ultramarine Blue:

Then using a white gel pen, I made little circles to look like snow:

Next using Copic N0, color the snow mounds in, accenting the artist’s lines and making the illusion of snow mounds in the forest:

Next using a product called Snow Writer add this dimension to the colored snow mounds and on the circles and some lines that the artist drew.  Immediately shake Elizabeth Craft Designs Silk Microfine Glitter Cool over all of this product:

 

Step 4:  The “trees” in the above die set have a built in embossing effect that suggests the dark lines on a birch tree.  With Copic liner pen .3,  I went over these embossed lines.

Step 5: Adhere two of the trees to both sides as shown below but leave some of the small branches not glued.  This gives you some options of tucking other items under them:

Step 6:  Stick a piece of white cardstock to Elizabeth Craft Designs Clear Double Sided Adhesive that measures 4″ x 2″.  Take the backing off of the adhesive and shake Silk Microfine Glitter Cool over this entire adhesive pc.  Shake off the excess and polish with your fingers.  Using the “Snow Flake”  from this die set, cut twice placing the die cutting side down on the glitter side of this pc. Tip: Cut off the excess glittered cardstock for each run through of the “snow flake” and the other dies you’ll run through your die cutting machine using this glittered cardstock.   I added ECD Glitter Dots Transparent/silver to the center of each snowflake.

Cut two of the smallest snowflakes from this set: 757 -Snowflakes by Elizabeth Craft Designs using the same technique as above (I cut off the circles)

Cut (out of white cardstock) and color the two birds from this set with Copic Markers:

Step 7:  Make the second layer, the frame.  Cut a rectangle from heavy white cardstock that measures 5.5″ x 7″.  I had to improvise this step so I placed the third largest of this die set with the shortest side placed on one side of the rectangle eyeballing an even margin from the edge on those three sides.  Run it through your cutting machine.  Keep the mat that it cuts for the inside sentiment as I did.  Next, slide the die to the opposite side and run through the machine again.

Step 8:  Make the base card by scoring a 12″ x 12″ pc. of Elizabeth Craft Designs Soft Finish Cardstock Dusky Sky at 6″.   Fold over and trim to 6″ x 7.5″.   Cut a rectangle from white cardstock that measures 5.75″ x 7.25″.  Adhere this rectangle to the “Dusky Sky” base card centering as shown with ECD double sided adhesive 10mm.  Next adhere the stamped first layer to this white rectangle also centering it.

Step 9:  Lay the “frame” layer from step 7 and lay it on top of this stack. Cut the last to trees in half dividing the two trunks. Adhere the  two tree halves that were the left trunks to both sides as shown with Beacon’s Kids Choice Glue.  Now that you have both layers almost finished you know where you want the “snow flakes and birds”:

Step 10:   On the underside of the frame layer add foam dimensionals like this:

Pull the backs off the foam and carefully place exactly over the stamped Snow Angel layer.  They should be exactly the same size.

Step 11:  You can either stamp a sentiment or do what I did for the inside sentiment.  I used the white mat that was cut from step 7 and  these two die sets:

Brush the outer edge only of the white mat with Wink of Stella Clear.  Cut “Merry Christmas” from silver mirror cardstock.  Cut two flourishes from the same ECD Dusky Sky cardstock as the base card.

That’s it!

I hope you’ll give making a 3D card yourself.  They are so fun to create.  But it’s not necessary for the challenge.  We hope you will show us what you do for this weeks challenge.  You inspire us!  Add 3 Blue/Silver Glitter Dots to both of the Flourishes.
