Your Favorite Christmas Stamp

This week’s challenge over at: Crazy4Challenges is to use your favorite Christmas stamp.  I don’t really have a favorite Christmas stamp but I chose this one because it always reminds me of when I was about 4 or 5 and in New Mexico I got to be the little angel in a live Nativity at the church we attended.  We had no lines, we just stood there.

The Steps:

Step 1:  Using a stamp set from InkadinkaClings called “Happy Birthday Jesus”.  It comes with 3 stamps.  I used all 3 (the sentiment, Mary, Joseph etc. Holly border).

Step 2:  I colored and cut the stamped imaged with a Die set from Elizabeth Craft Designs called “Nested Stitched Squares”.

Step 3:  Using another nested squares from Elizabeth Craft Designs called “Dotted Scalloped Squares”. I cut a red scalloped mat for the stamped layer and adhered them together.

Step 4:  Make a card base by scoring cardstock and folding over for a tent fold.  I then cut another mat from a Holly print paper to leave a 1/4″ border when you attach it to the base.  Then adhere the step 3 to the card.

Step 5:  The gold mirror cardstock “Merry Christmas” and stars are also from sets by Elizabeth Craft Designs.

To Honor My Granddaughter!

My Sierra H2O

This week’s challenge over at: Crazy4Challenges  is to choose a card that was sent to you and use it as your inspiration!

I chose my sweet granddaughter’s card because when I went looking at cards I had saved, this one from Sierra was in the mix.  The little girl who sent me this card had paid for it with her own money and gave it to me with a bag of Starbucks coffee she had also paid for!  This little girl just graduated from the University of Oregon. and was just married to her high school sweetheart!  They both have begun great careers!

The Steps:

Step: 1:  I used an older Karen Burniston’s die set that was called “Whiskers the Cat”. I cut the silhouette piece and whiskers piece from black cardstock 3 times.  All the others were cut from white cardstock and colored with Copic Markers.  The Santa hat is from an old KB die set that was accessories for all her “critters” that she released that year.

Step 2: Make a base card by scoring a 5.5″ x 11″ piece of white cardstock at the 5.5″ mark on the long side.  Fold over for a tent fold card and trim to 5.5″ x 7.75″.  (Although this is a huge card, it is the exact size of the one given to me!).

Step 3:  I cut a blue card stock that had little white glittered dots all over it into a rectangle that measures 5.5″ x 7.5″ to cover the entire front of the base card.

Step 4:  The Christmas lights and snow drift on the fence are Silhouette files.  The fence for the snow drift is a 1.5″ x 7.5″ strip of “wood look” paper that I though looked remarkably like the one in the inspiration card.

Step 5: Once I had all the components made, I assembled them as shown and that’s it!:

Sketch Week!

Nov Monkey H2O

It’s the third Saturday of the month so we have a sketch challenge: Crazy4Challenges

This card is fast and easy.   You could use this layout for so many themes and put any feature in the oval.

The Steps:

Step 1:  Make a base card by scoring an 8.5″ x 11″ piece of white cardstock at 5.5″ along the long side.  Fold over for a book fold and trim to 5.5″ x 7.5″.

Step 2:  I first made a pattern of the wave in the sketch:

Then I used this to make a light pencil mark on two of three complimentary colors of cardstock.   I chose a rust, olive and dark yellow cardstock, in that order, from top to bottom.  Only the two lower colors need to be cut in that wave and then layered onto the top color.  Adhere them, as shown in the sketch, to the front of the base.

Step 3:  I chose one of Joset’s for Elizabeth Craft Designs die sets called “1618 Monkey” :https://www.elizabethcraftdesigns.com/products/monkey

to put onto the oval in the sketch.  The banana die is also in this cute set. Cut and assemble the monkey and cut the banana 4 times.

Put Candy on it Challenge

Yep, this week over at: Crazy4Challenges  According to the days of the week calendar, jit’s National Candy Day !  So this week is to put some candy on your project!  I am working on Christmas cards, so I made this card to look like a fireplace with “Naughty or Nice”  stockings hung up.

The Steps:

Step 1:  I began this project by cutting out the pieces of an, apparently, discontinued die set from Elizabeth Craft Designs that was called: 932 – Stocking Solid.  I used Green, red and white cardstock and assembled as shown.

Step 2:  Make a base card by scoring an 11″ x 8.5″ piece of white cardstock at 5.5″ along the longer side.  Fold over for a tent fold and trim to 5.5″ by 7″.

Step 3:  Cut a rectangle from designer paper that looks like brick and measures 5″ x 6.5″.  Adhere it to the base front.  Next, cut a strip from the same paper that measures 1″ x 7″.  Score 3 times at .25″, .50″ and .75″ all the way across this strip.  Now fold on the score lines to create what I hoped looks like a mantel to hang the stockings.

Step 4:  Cut a square that measures 3″ x 3″ from black cardstock.  Adhere it to the card centered as shown.  Now adhere the mantel from step 3 above the black square.

Step 5:  I used another discontinued Elizabeth Craft Designs die set called 932 – Holly Border.

Step 6:  The candy in the red stocking are Silhouette print and cut files.  I had cut from black cardstock, the “coal” for the green stocking.  Then I used a white Prismacolor pencil to write “Santa’s Making a List”.  Here’s another quick look:

Peel Off Stickers Wreath

This weeks challenge over at:  Crazy4Challenges is to put a wreath on your card! I decided to make a large wreath from one of my favorite products.  Elizabeth Craft Designs has a product called: Peel Off Stickers The one I used for this card is called Elegant Leaves Sku 2525.

The Steps:

Step 1: Make all the leaves.  First make the glitter paper.  Cut a 6″x6″sq. piece of white cardstock.  Stick this square to a 6″x6″ square of clear double sided adhesive.  Carefully pull the white cardstock without touching the adhesive side.  (I use tweezers)  Now sprinkle with Elizabeth Craft Designs: Silk Microfine Glitter in Warm Diamond 

Next, polish the glitter into the cardstock by rubbing it all over with your finger.  This step is what assures that the glitter gets into all the tiny spaces and it really brings out the glow of the glitter.  Now, using tweezers, peel off the leaves and attach them to the glittery white square.  Color them with Copic Markers and fussy cut out:

Step 2:  Using Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1254 – Entwined Circles  Cut two of the largest die in this set. I used wood look cardstock.entwined.jpgAdhere them together but twist one around so the two layers don’t nest together.  As it turned out, not much of these circles show in the end, but it still gave me the perfect base for these leaves.

Step 3:  Make a base card by cutting a 12″ x 12″ green piece of cardstock in half.  Score one half at 6″.  Fold over for a tent fold card.  Cut a piece of designer cardstock or paper that measures 5.75″ x 5.75″ Square. (I used piece that looks like bricks painted white.) Next Adhere the sandwiched entangled circles, centered onto the card.  Now start arranging the leaves to the circles as shown.

Step 4: I cut the boughs from green cardstock using a die set that I just saw has been discontinued.  However, any greenery die set you have would work or leave this out and just add a bow. I added a shinny green ribbon bow over the green boughs.

Step 5:  The sentiment “Fall” was cut from gold mirror cardstock using Karen Burniston’s: https://karenburniston.com/alphabet/

Focus on the Sentiment!

This one is easy!

This weeks challenge over at: Crazy4Challenges is to focus on the sentiment.  In other words, make the sentiment as large as you want.  This one is easy, so I hope you’ll join us.

The Steps:

Step 1:  This card measures 6.25″ x 5″.  So first make a base card from white cardstock by scoring an 8.5″ x 11″ piece of white cardstock at 5″ and fold over for a tent fold.  Trim to the finished size.

Step 2:  I used the largest die in Elizabeth Craft Designs  to cut the stared background paper: 1120 – Stitched Rectangles  

Step 3:  Adhere it to the base using clear double sided adhesive 10mm.

Step 4:  I cut the sentiment 3 times to make it 3D.  The sentiment is from a set by DoCrafts.  I actually bought this on a HSN craft products show.  Then adhered it centered on the front.

That’s it!  I love quick and simple!

Put A Drink On It!

According to our Hostess, Frances Byrne, it’s Beer Drinking Day!  The challenge this week is to put some kind of a drink on your card.  I made this card for my best friend, Jeanine, who is also my boss at the beauty salon I’ve worked at for the last 16yrs.  Our birthdays are 2 days apart!  She is 10yrs. younger than me however!  I just love her and we often spend our lunch hour picking up fast food and spending the hour chatting and laughing.

The Steps:

Step 1:  I made the pop up inside the card first.  I used an older die set from Karen Burniston called 780 – Garden Bench.  I like to try to use currently available products but this bench worked so well with the Art Impression’s stamp of these two ladies.  4407 – Coffee BFF’s

Step 2:  The card is a 6″x6″ square. I cut two 5.75″ x 5.75″ squares from white cardstock.  I stamped one with the tree from this stamp set I bought from:Amazon link to stamp set

I have purchased several sets from this seller on Amazon.  They all have not disappointed me.  The seller is GIMITSUI.  They don’t spend on fancy packaging and the buyer benefits.  This set is priced at $6.59  They are a Prime Member store and offer free shipping and free returns!  What!  I know!  You will not want to return them.  All of the stamp sets I have purchased from them stamp very well.  Here are two more sets that I adore and have already used.

Then I used PanPastels to stencil the clouds and hills behind the bench.  The other 6″ square I also used PanPastels and stencils for the grass and path: Snow storm and Clouds & Mountain and Split rail Fence

Next I trimmed them to fit behind and around the bench.  Wait to adhere these two stenciled squares until later.

Step 3: I stamped the Art Impression BFF’s stamp.  I colored them with Copic Markers and fussy cut them out.  I glued them to the front of the bench just on the back side of their legs which makes them really look like they’re sitting on that bench!  I’ve had the AI stamp for awhile and have used them a lot.  But I really believe I saw Frances use this stamp exactly like this when the Garden Bench first came out.

Step 4: Cut two 6″ squares from a sky blue cardstock for the front and back of the pop up.  Now take a scrap of white cardstock that is about 2″ x 4″ and stencil this strip to continue the hills behind the bench.  Do the same thing for under the bench.   Adhere the strip that is for behind the bench to the bottom of a blue square. (Make sure it is positioned to fill in where the bench cut out is).  Do the same thing for the piece that is attached to the path/grass layer and adhere it to what will be the back of the card.

Step 5:  I used 3 die sets for the front of the card: 1434 Calligraphic Elements – 3

1161 – happy birthday  and Coffee Charms.  I cut the “Elements” from silver mirror cardstock.  I cut coffee cup with white cardstock and colored with Copic Markers.  I cut the top from Velum. The happy birthday is from dark blue cardstock.  Adhere them all to the front of the card as shown:

A lesson learned!

 Sept sketch H2O

It’s sketch week!

It’s also my birthday today!  I love sketch week because your card can be any theme.  So I made mine a birthday card.

I always will post projects I like, but also my “not so much” projects.  This one I really thought would end up cute.  I had some designer paper with all these pastries on it.  I thought it would be perfect to use with the dies I wanted for the four squares in this sketch.  However, once I saw it all together, I think it’s too busy and the paper competes with the feature “squares”.  So it just goes to show you, that even when you think you got this, it’s that one that will teach you a lesson!

The Steps:

Step 1:  The designer paper stripes measure 2″ x 7″.  The blue stripe is 1.5″ x 7″.

Step 2:  I used Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1118 – Stitched Squares  for the four squares.  Using the second to smallest die, cut four times from white cardstock.  Then I used a little yellow Panpastel to match the yellow in the paper.  It doesn’t look yellow in the photo because it’s pretty pale yellow.

Step 3:  I used two Karen Burniston Charm die sets for the squares:

1050 – Sweet Treats Charms        and         1041 – Coffee Charms

I cut all of the dies I used from white cardstock and colored them with Copic Markers.

The Yellow Happy Birthday sentiment is Elizabeth Craft Designs: 783 – Happy Birthday

Step 4:  The base card measures 5.5″ x 7″.  Score an 11″ x 8.5″ pc. of paper at 5.5 on the long side.  Fold over for a book fold.  Then add all the elements in steps 1, 2 and 3 to the front of the base as shown.  Here’s another look at the card:

Color Blocking!

So I have to admit I wussed out this week!  I was going to use a different and way more ornate stamp set for this technique but the embossing was a mess.  So I chose instead a much simpler die set and the embossing worked well.  I also only made 4 color blocks!  The set I used is a stamp set from Elizabeth Craft Designs: Color My Easter Eggs stamp set

The Steps:

Step 1:  Cut a piece of white cardstock in a square that measures 5 x 5″.  Stamp the eggs with embossing ink and then use black embossing powder.

Step 2:  Cut the embossed square in half.  Then cut the two halves in half.  Now you should have four 2.5″ squares.  Color each square with a different color of ink and ink daubers.

Step 3:  Create a base card by scoring a 8.5″ x 11″ pc. of white cardstock at 5.5″.  Fold over for a tent fold.  Trim to 5.5 x 5.5″.

Step 4:  Now I taped with removable tape the two top squares together and centered them leaving a .25″ border at the top and two sides.  Then I did the same with the two bottom squares.

Step 5:  I finished off the card with “Happy Easter” peel off sticker and black border lines peel off stickers.  Both are from Elizabeth Craft Designs.
