New Month – New C4C Challenge

A new month and a new challenge over at:  Crazy4Challenges

This month I am the hostess all month!  Which just means it’s my turn to come up with some fun challenges for the month of February.  Today is Ground Hog Day so the challenge is to put a ground hog or any other ground critter on your card.

I don’t have a Ground Hog but I do have a Hedge Hog!  This card is easy!

The Steps:

Step1:   I cut the body of the hedge hog pc. and apple pc. from white card stock, the leaves from green card stock and the spiky pc. from brown card stock.  I colored the body pc. and the apple with Copic Markers.  I sponged a darker brown ink on the edges of the spiky pc.  Assemble the hedge hog and adhere the leaf to the apple.

Step 2:  Out of a strip of green card stock that measures 1 x 6″ I cut a grass strip edge die that is discontinued but here is one that would create the same effect. :1388 – Adventure Edges – 3 die set

The clouds are from a discontinued Karen Burniston die set called “The All Season Tree”.

The “Hello” sentiment is Lawn Fawn’s:  Skripty Hello

scripty hello

I use this die so often that I don’t even put it away.  I cut it 3 times and adhered the 3 together to make it dimensional.

Step 3:  Make a base card by scoring an 8.5 x 11″ pc. of white card stock at 5.5″ on the long side.  Fold and trim to a 5 x 6.5″ with a tent fold.

Step 4:  Cut a mat that measures 4.75″ x 6.25″ from a print card stock you like.  I used Elizabeth Craft Designs: Thinking About Polinesia

Using the largest die from Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1120 – Stitched Rectangles  Cut a mat from from a light blue card stock.

Step 5:  Assemble the card.  Adhere the printed mat to the front of the card base.  Next adhere the die cut light blue mat over the printed one.  Adhere the “grass edge” just above the stitch line of the blue mat.  Now add the rest of the elements as shown:

I adhered the apple, hedge hog and clouds with foam dots and the “hello” sentiment with Beacons Kid’s Choice Glue.

That’s It

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I’d love to see your ground critter card!

I’ve had this digital stamp for years and have used it a few times.  It is called “Snow Fun” and is by Dr. Digi.  Snow Fun

snow fun (1)I love digital stamps because you can make them any size you want,  you can put backgrounds behind them, they print perfectly the first time, you can buy them pre-colored, and you don’t have to clean or store them!

The Steps:

Step 1:  Size, print and color with the medium of your choice.  I colored mine with Copic Markers.

Step 2:  I used the 4th to the largest die to cut the colored image from this set by Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1116 – Stitched Circles

Garden Notes - Frame It/ Stitched Circles

Step 3:  Use the 3rd to the largest die in the same set to cut a slightly larger circle for a mat for step 2.  Adhere the “image circle” to the blue circle.

Step 4:  Cut two each of the largest and smallest dies, out of wood look cardstock from: 1254 – Entwined Circles Glue the two of each together ending up with one of each but  thicker, which gives it more dimension.  Cut the little snowflake out 8 times.  Note:  The dies in this set will cut through two layers of cardstock at once.  You can always run it through your die cutting machine twice to make sure, as they are intricate.

Entwined Circles

Step 5:  Create the sentiment in word, “Just stopped by to say “Hay” and print on white cardstock.  Cut out with the 3rd die to the smallest in the same set as in step 2 and out of the same blue cardstock and the 4th to the smallest cut a blue mat.  Adhere the sentiment circle to the blue circle.

Step 6:  Make a base card by scoring an 11 x 8.5″ pc. of white cardstock at 5.5″ on the long side.  Trim to 5 x 7″ with a book fold.  Cut a rectangle from a designer paper that looks wintery and measures 4.75 x 6.75″.  Adhere this rectangle to the front of the base card.  Optional Note:  I created in word, the inside sentiment and printed it on white cardstock first.

Step 7:  Adhere the matted larger “image” circle to the top half of the front but make sure you leave room to layer on the “Entwined Circle” as shown:

Then adhere the Entwined circle over the top.  Repeat for the smaller “sentiment” circle in the lower left of the card.

Step 8:  I added clear Wink Of Stella to the snowflakes and a silver clear glitter dot to the center of each.  Glue the snowflakes as shown.

In honor of “Use less day”, the challenge is to make a one layer card.  Yay!  Bring out the stamps!  I chose this oldie but goodie set from Inky Antics:

Inky Antics

The whole time I was making this card, I was thinking about my friend Carlene, that I met on a  crafting Facebook page the day they launched it.  We knew immediately we thought the same way about a lot of things.  We have been emailing each other for years now.  One of the things we had in common, is that we both loved and bought several of these stamp sets.  They all come with a stamp that you use on Honey Comb paper and then cut out for the inside of the card.  In this set, it’s the balloon on the inside.  They make a cute card with a little surprise inside and are quick and easy!

In fact, that’s it.  You stamp, color and install the surprise inside and you’re done!
