This week’s challenge over at Crazy4Challenges was to pick any one of the sketches above from the yr. 2017 for your card layout. It could be any theme or colors. I chose C4C369. Do you see the mistake I made? In my haste to get this done on time I glued the silver flourishes down going the wrong way for the sketch! OH NO! Well, we all make mistakes. Once I was able to start breathing again, I decided I was just going to go with it. Even though they would have looked so much better the right way.
I’m confessing this to you because we are our toughest critic. The person who receives this card will never even see that there’s that mistake.
So let’s make this cute Christmas Tree .
The Steps:
Step 1: This one is so fun because it combines two die sets not intended for each other. With the below die set, use just the pine bough pc. and cut a bunch of these. I just kept repositioning the die over two layers of white cardstock until I had cut out that die 12 times netting me 24 of these.
Brush, on all 24 of these, with clear Wink of Stella.
Step 2: With the below die set 755 – 5 Part Pine cut all 5 pcs. of this tree from white cardstock:
Step 3: Now start gluing the “pine boughs” over the 5 tree layers but only glue the top of the pine boughs down. That’s what makes the tree more 3D:
Once you have all 5 tree layers covered the way you want it, then glue the 5 tree layers as shown above.
Step 4: Cut the two flourish pieces from this die set using silver mirror cardstock.
Step 5: Using the largest die from this set, cut a square from white cardstock:
Then using the below embossing folder, emboss this white mat:
Step 6: Using the third to the largest die in the below die set cut a rectangle out of red cardstock:
Emboss this red rectangle with this folder below:
The below are the main elements for this card. The little silver star is one I had in my stash:
Step 7: Make the base card from heavy white cardstock that measures 11″ x .5″ and score on the long side at 5.5″. Fold and trim to a 5.5″ square. If you’re going to stamp a sentiment on the inside of the card then this is when you should do it.
Step 8: Adhere the White mat to the base card leaving a 1/8″ on all sides. Adhere the Red mat onto the white mat as shown. Then adhere the completed tree. The flourishes next and I added a Red/silver Glitter Dot from Elizabeth Craft Designs.
That’s it! Pretty easy and I could also see this tree technique in green or a combo of white and green.
Thanks so much for taking a look!
As I ALWAYS say, “There’s no such thing as a mistake in card-making.” Maybe, we should just call this C4C369a so there’s a new sketch to be copied. Love this card.
