Another Challenge!

Freshly Made Sketches has created a new challenge.  Here’s the sketch:

Remember that I said in earlier posts that Freshly Made Sketches stresses a clean and uncluttered design.  For me that is a challenge because I tend to think more is better.  Here’s how I made the card:

First cut your card pieces:  The card base is a 5 x 7.  I simply took a 8.5 x 11 piece of white cardstock and scored at 5.5″

Next is to cut the colored cardstock mats.  I cut two pastel blue mats.  The larger one is 4.75″x6.75″.  The smaller one is 3.75″x5.25″.  The white mat behind the smaller blue one is 5.5×4″.  The next step was to decide what I wanted for the image.  I just love Elizabeth Craft Designs Peel off stickers.  So I chose one of their adorable Christmas Ornaments.  To make this ornament I first used Elizabeth Craft Designs 6×6″ double sided adhesive and applied it to a 6×6″ piece of white cardstock.  (There is several YouTube videos that show you how to make your own glitter cardstock for these peel off stickers. Search Elizabeth Craft Designs Peel off stickers video on YouTube.)  Once you have the adhesive applied to the cardstock you peel off the backing paper and cover the adhesive with Elizabeth Craft Designs Microfine Glitter.  The color I used is Warm Diamond.

20151121_154631Make sure you really cover all the adhesive.  I always put a piece of copy paper under it before I shake the glitter onto it.  Then I pick up the adhesive covered cardstock and shake of the excess onto another piece of cardstock.  Then I shake that back onto the adhesive again.  See the above referenced video tutorial for complete instructions.  Next I applied the peel off sticker to the glittered cardstock.  You want to make sure that you really get that sticker attached well.  You can use the glitter jar to rub over it with firm pressure in little circles to make sure it’s stuck well.  I then colored the image with copic markers and cut it out.  To make the red and blue banners I first cut a piece of red cardstock 1.5×4.75″ and embossed it with Darice embossing folder.  I cut a piece of Elizabeth Craft Designs Shimmer Sheetz 7/8 x 3.75″ and embossed it with a Cuttlebug embossing folder.

One I embossed the Shimmer Sheet strip I lightly sanded it with a craft sanding block to remove the color from the embossed areas.  Now all I had to do was assemble the card.  I added a little red 1/4″ red satin ribbon bow and two little pine boughs I cut with my Silhouette and another peel off sticker of the words Merry Christmas.2015-11-21 14.58.06

I have been crafting with paper for several yrs. now. I am a single mother of four grown children (2 boys, 2 girls) and a grandmother of 6 (5 girls and 1 boy). I still work as a hairdresser part time at a beautiful retirement community in San Ramon, CA My passions are: gardening, sewing and crafting with paper while watching my favorite TV shows. I have an amazing dog named Shelby who I just can't imagine life without. I hope, with this blog, that I will inspire, teach, prevent costly mistakes in your journey and well, just have a lot of fun creating.
